Each social media platform has different policies for using AI with your audience. This post is designed for Solopreneurs and Micro Businesses. I had AI assist me in gathering these links and checked to make sure they’re all legit. Below, I am going to share with you policies from LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Last time we talked about being transparent with your solopreneur or micro business’s followers and audience, even when using AI. This post discusses what wording to use and how to share AI-generated disclosures. Feel free to check it out.
Full disclosure: Be sure to check with the platform for further information. This post was developed in 2026, and the instructions may have changed by the time you read it. I have included as many links to the pages that should get you the right answers.
Social Media Platforms
Different platforms have different requirements, expectations, and disclosure tools. What works on LinkedIn might not feel appropriate for TikTok. Your transparency strategy should adapt without compromising honesty.
Instagram Transparency Best Practices
Let’s first start with showing transparency while using AI on Instagram. Instagram audiences expect visual polish, but they also value realness. AI-generated images fit naturally into the platform, but disclosure is critical given its image-focused purpose.
Instagram moves fast. Users scroll through feeds in seconds. I am always amazed at how the platform never shows my posts to people, while Facebook shows them more often. The disclosure of your AI-generated image needs to be immediately visible, not buried in a long caption that requires a “see more” click.
Best practices for Instagram AI transparency
- Place your disclosure in the first line of the caption before any hook or intro.
- Use a consistent format like “🤖” AI Image so your audience learns to recognize it. I talked about this last time as well.
- Add disclosure to Stories using text stickers or GIFs.
- Include AI disclosure in Reels captions if the visuals are AI-generated.
Did you know?
Instagram users are more forgiving of AI use if you are upfront about it. They are less forgiving if they feel tricked.

Facebook Transparency Best Practices
Now onto Facebook. Facebook’s transparency best practices ensure users can distinguish between authentic and synthetic media. It is important to do this if your target audience is older adults. They may not know what to look for when viewing an AI-generated image, video, or other content. Below are the best ways to be transparent on Facebook.
Best practices for Facebook Transparencies
- Preserve Rights: Ensure you have the legal right to use any AI-generated content you post, as Meta’s standard intellectual property and community policies still apply.
- Self-Disclose AI Use: If you create or significantly edit a photorealistic image, video, or realistic-sounding audio using AI, you should manually apply the “AI info” label during the posting process.
- Be Specific: Clearly highlight which parts of your content are AI-generated rather than using vague descriptions. If your image is AI but your content is yours, be sure to indicate on the image that it is AI.
- Prioritize Ads Disclosure: Advertisers must disclose AI use, especially for political, election, or social issue ads that depict realistic events or people.

Maintain Authenticity: Avoid using AI to create “clickbait” (like fake emotional stories to get likes) or to spread misinformation, as these can lead to your content being downranked or removed. You will lose followers quickly if they think you are lying to them.

LinkedIn Transparency Best Practices
The next AI transparency best practice I will review is LinkedIn. AI use is common on the platform, but LinkedIn users also have strong opinions about content quality and authenticity.
The transparency expectation on LinkedIn is higher because the platform is built on professional credibility. If your content feels too polished or generic, readers will assume it was written by AI and judge accordingly.
Best practices for LinkedIn AI transparency:
- Disclose AI use in the post itself if it is substantial.
- Add your perspective or commentary to AI-drafted posts so your voice is obvious.
- Use your own voice for storytelling to bring AI-generated insights to life through real experience.
- Tag AI-generated images with a simple note in the post caption. Use things like “AI-generated” at the bottom corner of the image.

LinkedIn likes posts that are detailed and deep and show you are an expert on the topic. It is best to use AI to speed up the 1st draft of your content, but make sure your editing is adding the knowledge that proves you know what you are talking about.

TikTok Transparency
Let’s move on to TikTok now. TikTok audiences expect authenticity and humor. AI-generated visuals can work, but the tone of disclosure matters more than the format.
TikTok users call out inauthenticity faster than any other platform. If you use AI and try to pass it off as original, someone will comment about it. If you disclose it with confidence, the conversation often shifts to curiosity about how you created it.
Best practices for TikTok AI transparency:
- Add text overlays to AI-generated visuals that say “Made with AI” or “AI image.“
- Make your disclosure part of the content hook, like “I used AI to create this, and here is what happened.“
- Respond to comments about AI use with transparency and humor, not defensiveness. Be honest. People appreciate honesty.
Did you know?
TikTok audiences care less about whether you used AI and more about whether you are being real about it. It is so frustrating when you are watching something, and then it turns out it isn’t real. I saw some of these major hurricanes devastating an area I know, and it turns out it wasn’t real. I’m so glad I didn’t share it.

YouTube Transparency Practices
And lastly, let’s talk about YouTube. YouTube’s transparency guidelines require creators to disclose when they use meaningfully altered or synthetic media—including AI—that a viewer could mistake for a real person, place, or event. No one wants to listen to something that is not what that person said.
Best practices for YouTube:
- Label Realistic AI Content: You must disclose content that makes a real person appear to say or do something they didn’t, alters footage of a real place, or generates a realistic-looking scene that never happened.
- Use the Upload Disclosure: During the upload process in YouTube Studio, you must select “Yes” under the “Altered content” section if your video meets the disclosure requirements.
- Prominent Labels for Sensitive Topics: For videos that touch on sensitive subjects such as health, news, elections, or finance, YouTube may apply a more prominent label directly to the video player rather than just to the description.
- Exemptions for Productivity & Unrealistic Content: You do not need to disclose AI used for scripts, ideas, or automatic captions. Similarly, clearly unrealistic content (such as animation) or minor aesthetic edits (such as color correction or background blur) do not require a label.
- Privacy Request Process: Individuals can request the removal of AI-generated or synthetic content that simulates their identifiable face or voice.
- Consequences of Non-Disclosure: Creators who consistently fail to disclose required AI content may face video removal, demonetization, or suspension from the YouTube Partner Program.
Did you know?
It’s important to think through what you will be using to disclosure your AI generated policies. Take a little time to determine whether you will need to use the check YES box when uploading, or if you just need to add it to the video itself and the box. Spending some time figuring out your business policy will help you know what to do when creating content.
